Job Summary of Retail Assistant:

In the position of Retail Assistant you will be in charge of crucial store management duties, including supporting the supervision of daily store operations, ensuring optimal store performance, managing schedules efficiently, and creating operational strategies. Moreover, you will be responsible for pinpointing training opportunities to nurture and expand the team's skills.

Responsibilities of Retail Assistant:

  • The individual should be able to complete job requirements with or without reasonable assistance
  • Collaborating with the manager to develop and execute strategies aimed at improving operational performance
  • Defines and conveys the job roles and performance anticipations to their immediate subordinates for the sake of shared understanding and achieving aimed results
  • Discovers training and development avenues to assist their team members in boosting their performance levels
  • Understands the overarching corporate strategy and effectively conveys and embodies the essential principles of the company to promote teamwork and a sense of belonging among employees
  • Observes the competitive environment within the locality and communicates with the direct leader concerning any necessary adjustments to maintain the competitive status of the company
  • Shares feedback with the direct leader by making suggestions on which items to introduce or discontinue
  • Plays a role in the selection process for store staff by conducting interviews
  • Imparts relevant details such as weekly reports, main team achievements, progress, and potential challenges
  • Ensures adherence of store personnel to inventory procedures, product handling guidelines, and cash control policies with the aim of minimizing losses
  • Takes charge of resolving operational customer problems when the immediate supervisor is not present
  • Detects and resolves safety hazards, ensures appropriate ergonomics, and maintains the operational status of store machinery
  • Consistently enforces cleanliness regulations and ensures correct signage placement within the store
  • Helps the leader in managing inventory levels by appropriately ordering products as needed
  • Merchandise is showcased tidily to maximize profitability
  • The duty includes securing the freshness and quality of products on sale, in addition to verifying the precision of product signage
  • Collaborates with the manager to achieve the store's financial objectives, including the payroll and total loss budget, overseeing inventory reconciliation, and providing guidance for new employee orientation
  • Directs the day-to-day functions of the team, escalating issues to the appropriate support or leadership level when deemed necessary
  • Ensures that employees complete their allocated tasks promptly and effectively to deliver top-notch customer service for the company
  • Abides by the established regulations and procedures of the company, prioritizing the security and confidentiality of documents and information while undertaking any extra duties that may be delegated

Physical Demands of Retail Assistant:

  • Competency in arranging goods from store receiving to shelving; skilled in positioning products, weighing up to 45 pounds, on shelves at different heights
  • Regular obligations include sitting, standing, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and moving around the store
  • Capable of executing tasks with or without reasonable modifications

Qualifications of Retail Assistant:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older to be employed for this role at ALDI
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to provide and lead others to provide prompt and courteous customer service
  • Ability to develop rapport, trust, and open communication that enhances the growth and job performance of direct reports
  • Ability to interpret and apply company policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish goals, guide employee performance to ensure the quality and completion of work assignments
  • Ability to evaluate and drive performance of self and others
  • Ability to understand and apply management principles concerning budgeting, personnel costs, and expenses
  • Ability to operate a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to safely and properly operate equipment, including electric/manual hand jack, floor scrubber, and cardboard baler and perform general cleaning duties to company standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to stay organized and multi-task in a professional and efficient manner, following instructions and giving attention to detail
  • Meets any state and local requirements for handling and selling alcoholic beverages
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a retail environment
  • A combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
  • Prior management experience preferred
